Wheelchair lift barrier promises safer vehicle transfers

A company that specialises in manufacturing products for wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs) has introduced a new safety barrier designed to be used for vehicle passenger lifts.

Fall Stop is a strong and robust lift barrier which is designed to increase safety when using a passenger lift by stopping a wheelchair, semi-ambulant, or attendant, falling from the raised platform.

Dean Koller, managing director at Koller Engineering, said: “The risk of wheelchair users and attendant’s falling from the raised platform of a vehicle is very real and is something that needed to be addressed.

“Many people may not give the use of the passenger lift a thought, however, it can be a real danger. Fall Stop reduces the risk of falls by simply clipping in to the lift creating a barrier and providing peace of mind to both the wheelchair user and the attendant.

“Weighing just 3.5kg, FALL STOP can be stored with ease in the vehicle after removal making it an additional safety feature that all accessible vehicles really shouldn’t be without.

“Koller takes passenger safety extremely seriously and we are continually looking to develop innovative equipment to help with accessible travel. FALL STOP is another string to our ‘safety’ bow.”

Fall Stop is made from high strength material having been pull-tested to 850kg without failure.

Finished in a high-visibility and durable powder-coating, Fall Stop can be clipped into the passenger lift rail and does not require any tools for fitting, making it quick and easy to use.
