Tomcat Special Needs Innovations, a Gloucester-based company, has won a national tender in Norway for two of its trikes.
The Tomcat Rotor for adults and the teenage Arrow Rotor won in Class 8 of the 20-class bike tender, funded by the Norwegian government.
The trikes are hand-powered but come with an electric assist function.
The evaluation of the tender was based principally on quality, user suitability and price.
While UK-based, Tomcat trikes are distributed by Sunrise Medical and its distribution network in over 130 countries, including Norway.
Tomcat founder Bob Griffin started the company when he wanted to innovate a way for his disabled step-son to cycle in 1997.
Thus he developed the company’s signature ‘carer control’ function.
In 2013, Tomcat won the Queen’s Award for Innovation for the 30-plus innovations that it developed for the disabled community.
