LEIA, the UK trade association and advisory body for the lift and escalator industry, has announced the appointment of Alastair Stannah, the managing director of Stannah Lifts, as its new president.
He is joined by the technical director of Schindler, Paul Turner, who has taken on the role of vice president.
Alastair Stannah has been with the Stannah family business for more then 20 years. He currently heads up their new lift and service business in the UK and has served as a member of the LEIA Board for 12 years.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I am delighted and honoured to become President of LEIA and look forward to working with Nick Mellor and his team, and the LEIA Board in further developing and raising standards in our industry.
“The changes that Brexit has bought to the industry in terms of new product certification requirements are going to be a major challenge in 2021, combined with the ongoing impact of the pandemic on how we work in support of our customers.”
Paul Turner has worked in the lift and escalator industry for over 20 years, working for both large lift companies and subcontractor businesses. He is technical director for Schindler UK and Ireland and a member of the Schindler UK and Ireland Board of Management.
Turner said: “I am absolutely delighted to be a member of the LEIA board, and very much look forward to positively supporting our members and industry by promoting stability and clarity as our industry moves to the next level.”
