Arguably the largest mobility scooter retailer in the UK, ScootaMart, has revealed it is ‘urgently seeking’ new franchisees in 22 UK areas, and in a bid to encourage takers has reduced its joining fees from £20,000 to £5,200.
The new opportunities are for 20 sites in the North, one in the South and one in the East Midlands, according to an update on its website. The company said there is a definite immediate need for competitive, quality mobility stores and is currently offering to drastically reduce the franchise fee.
Speaking to AMP, ScootaMart managing director, Spencer Coe said that although the firm has been geared up to franchise for a good few years it did not feel it had the manpower to successfully watch over and assist the potential franchisee.
“The way the industry has changed over the last few years meant we could potentially set up a store which did not give the franchisee the best advantage against competition. We have spent time researching ideal locations, put up shop plans and ideal stock levels to meet customer requirements and then made long-term commitments to suppliers. This guarantees we are buying stock at the lowest possible prices to give our franchisee the best chance of succeeding,” Coe said.
“We will be overseeing them all the way, from shop choice, layout, ongoing sales and maintenance training, plus a tailor made computer software package that ScootaMart has designed and improved over many years and helps run a store like clockwork.”
Coe outlined that because ScootaMart has its own products that cannot be purchased by competitors as well as major supplier deals, new franchisees have an advantage over smaller dealers.
He added: “We have aimed to make start-up costs as low as possible to encourage people to join forces with us, we are confident we can have a franchisee open a store, fully kitted out and ready to trade for under £20k, which is unheard of in our industry.”
ScootaMart is looking for new franchisees in: Barnsley, Barrow-In-Furness, Chesterfield, Darlington, Derby, Doncaster, Fareham, Grimsby, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Lancaster, Lincoln, Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Rotherham, Scunthorpe, Sheffield, Stockport, Wakefield, Warrington and York.
