A Scandinavian mobility supplier has bold export ambitions for the UK market which it hopes will embrace its wheelchair-come-rollator solution.
Tukimet Oy, the creator of the Wheellator, which is a combination of a wheelchair and a rollator, is hoping to reach UK mobility dealerships via larger distributors and importers.
The firm recently opened a new factory to keep up with demand after growing around 25% year-on-year thanks to the success of the Wheellator in other countries.
Exhibiting at Trade Days this month, Mirko Borm, who is in charge of export sales for the Wheellator, said that the company had sold all of the pieces it brought to the trade show by the end of the second day. Borm explained that the Wheellator proved attractive to dealers because of the lack of anything similar on the UK market.
“We only have two online shops right now that are working with us in the UK. I believe that there are two or three big players who could help us to distribute to smaller business owners. We are looking more for a larger importer who can then distribute to a network. We are working with smaller distributors at the moment but in the future we will look towards larger ones.”
Borm, who is based in Rauma in Finland, hopes the company will continue its substantial growth. He will be travelling to Kuwait and Dubai this month to visit companies interested importing the Wheellator.
Tukimet Oy expects that the UK market will be better than some other European markets for a number of reasons.
Borm said: “I would say on first impression, because I have been working for a year now in the German market, I believe that the UK market will different for us. The German market is quite big, they have over 270 different types of rollator, most are from China and they have some really big retail companies who have between 50 and 80 stores.”
The Wheellator is manufactured from steel pipe, has wide puncture-proof font wheels and easy-to-use breaks with bearings and no wearing plastic parts. For indoor and outdoor use, the Wheellator has an adjustable backrest, is CE marked and is packed with no need for further assembly.
