Arguably one of the most recognised national players in mobility retail, Ableworld boss Mike Williams knows more than most about scaling a business.
Since opening his first premises in 2001, the former B&Q man has certainly not grown weary of expansion. In fact, Mike still has a healthy appetite for launching new stores and continues to award franchises.
Having opened one in Bournemouth recently — Ableworld’s 33rd outlet — and with more in the pipeline, Mike is rightly regarded as an industry juggernaut and a major mover in the mobility retail market.
He is also busy preparing his business for a potential stock exchange listing at some stage in the near future. But floatation, when it does arrive, will not herald his exit from the industry.
Far from it. “I will exit when I am incapable of coming into work or I drop dead! I love the business. I am not looking to exit. I don’t play golf, I don’t want to cruise round the world. My hobby is the business. And from my point of view the funding will go into the business.”
A true giant of the mobility retail sector, any move that Ableworld makes is always closely watched by the rest of the industry and, as the business manoeuvres into new locations, its turnover will only continue to swell.
