A 79-year-old pensioner has died following a collision with a car on a pelican crossing.

The Northampton Chronicle reported on how the man was involved in a crash near Morrisons in Corby on Friday afternoon.

Releasing details of the incident, a spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police confirmed the man died after the crash in Oakley at around 2.25pm on Friday.

The spokesperson said: “He had been crossing a pelican crossing on his mobility scooter when he was hit by a grey Fiat 500.”

Adding: “The air ambulance was called to the incident but the man died at the scene.”

The crash is now being investigated by Northants Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

The Northampton Chronicle report went on to add that no arrests have been made in connection with the collision and witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage should call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.
