North West firms celebrate major milestone in helping wheelchair users regain independence

Two family-run businesses in the North West are celebrating their nine-year partnership after enabling hundreds of wheelchair users across the UK to regain their independence.

Car dealer, Swansway Group, has announced that Wheelchair Accessibility Vehicle (WAV) conversion specialist Lewis Reed has placed orders of more than 900 Volkswagen vehicles since their partnership began.

Lewis Reed is the official Volkswagen WAV converter in the UK and prides itself on adapting vehicles to “match the person”, not the other way around.

Swansway Group partnered with Lewis Reed in 2012 and, for every vehicle sold through their Motability Scheme, the company donates £20 to enable a child and a carer to visit Circus Starr, an accessible circus show.

Peter Scullion, managing director at Lewis Reed, said: “It is so wonderful that both ourselves and the Swansway Group have worked together now for so long.  Both our businesses are family run, both work hard individually and successfully together. Our aims are the same, to provide the very highest standards in vehicles as well as customer satisfaction. I therefore look forward to continuing our working relationship with them in the coming future.”

John Smyth, director of Swansway Group, commented: “As a family business, working so closely with Lewis Reed who adds such great value to so many other families, is very satisfying. We both understand that the purchase of a vehicle is so much more than a means of transport; it’s a lifestyle choice, an enabler and for some, a lifeline to independence. We are very proud to share Lewis Reed’s strong values that ensure customers’ unique needs and wants are at the heart of all we do.”
