Following the Government’s announcement of new national restrictions in England from 5 November, Motability wanted to reassure customers that the Motability Scheme will remain open.
It also confirmed that and RAC and Kwik Fit will continue to support customers who need assistance during this time.
Motability set out that there will be some impact on customers needing to access their dealership at this time.
Here are the key points:
- Dealership showrooms in England will be closed from 5 November 2020, however dealership service centres will remain open.
- It may still be possible to place an application for a car on the Scheme if your dealer is able to safely do so within the local regulations and has the capacity to manage your application.
- If you are awaiting the handover of your Motability Scheme car during the lockdown period, your dealership may still be able to hand over your new car if they are able to safely do this on their premises while complying with local regulations. Please note, Motability is not able to handover the car anywhere other than the dealership premises – which could include their car park.
In both these circumstances you must speak to your dealer directly to understand how they can help you.
If you are coming to the end of your current Motability lease and you are not able, or do not wish, to place a new application at this time Motability will automatically extend your lease for six months if the vehicle is not returned to us.
This is the case even if you have already had a lease extension due to the COVID situation. You will also automatically receive a Certificate of Motor Insurance or a temporary cover note from RSA Motability (RSAM) covering this six-month period. You can place a new order, or return your car, at any point during this six-month lease extension
The service centre within your dealership will remain open for all regular servicing and any repairs, however please bear with them as this could take longer than usual whilst operating with social distancing measure in place.
Dealerships in Wales remain closed for both new applications and handovers until the end of the two week ‘fire break’ lockdown on 9 November 2020.
Currently, dealerships in Scotland and Northern Ireland are open but operating with social distancing measures in place.
Motability said: “As this situation is constantly under review please check the local restrictions in place in your area and if in doubt please speak to your dealership to understand how they are currently operating.
“We regularly update the Frequently Asked Questions on our website with more information as and when we have it, or please contact your dealer directly for more information relating to your local situation.”
Adding: “As ever our customers remain at the heart of the Motability Scheme and we remain committed to continuing to support you with worry-free motoring during this time.”
