A man riding a mobility scooter who was involved in a collision with a bus in Newcastle city centre has died, Northumbria Police have confirmed.
George ‘Geordie’ Bilclough, of Elswick, was struck shortly after 4pm on Tuesday while riding his scooter but passed away on Thursday night.
An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision, which happened on Blackett Street.
The road was closed for two hours as emergency services responded and police carried out enquiries.
The victim’s family released a statement paying tribute to George Bilclough.
They said: “He fought a good fight but lost in the end. He will forever be missed and his love will never be lost. We love you forever and always.”
He is the latest person to have died in an incident involving a mobility scooter after a handful of deaths that have already occurred this year in various locations across the country.
