Mobility scooter safety takes priority at People First

Owner of People First Mobility in Skegness has told AMP just how important scooter safety is to the retailer.

In an exclusive interview, Karen Sheppard detailed how her firm puts mobility scooter training at the top of its agenda to help drive up scooter standards.

She explained: The thing we consider a lot is the mobility training. We’ve done a couple of sessions where we go somewhere local, use their car park and we can set a track up and I have the local police come.”

“We do this because I think, and I’ve said this before, there does need to be some kind of control out there on some of the scooters.”

Sheppard detailed how she thinks the online market has only really made things worse for mobility scooter safety and that side of things within the retail space.

Giving an example, she said: “I’ve got a guy who has bought one from the internet and he can’t see very well.

“He’s not fit for a scooter but he has bought it off the internet so there’s nothing we can do about that and that’s also a problem with the online side of things.”

Sheppard spoke to AMP as part of AMP’s Big Interview for the February Edition.
