Man dies in mobility scooter collision with car

A man riding a mobility scooter in Warwickshire has died after being involved in a collision with a car.

Police are appealing for witnesses or information following the fatal collision in Long Itchington, which involved a BMW 320D on Southam Road.

The rider of the mobility scooter, a man in his late seventies, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital but later died.

Officers are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage of the incident.

A number of mobility scooter users have been killed in 2018 after colliding with cars on roads.

Derby in particular has seen a high number of incidents, sparking calls from locals, families and some members of the industry for tighter restrictions of mobility scooters.

In the summer a coroner wrote to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling urging a change in legislation that would restrict who can buy mobility scooters after three local deaths involving the equipment.
