A Shopmobility service in Lowestoft, Suffolk, has recently celebrated 20 years of providing mobility aids and advice to local residents with limited mobility.
From its base at Station Square, the Shopmobility has played an important role in the lives of many town residents over the past two decades and last week it provided its 20,000th hire.
The celebrations come as many other Shopmobility services around the country are forced to close their doors due to council funding cuts.
A spokesman for Lowestoft Shopmobility told the Journal: “So many people benefit from this service every year, both local people and people who visit the area for holidays.
“Using a scooter or wheelchair enables people who would normally struggle to walk the distance due to a disability or a health problem enjoy the shops or the sea air.”
Members can hire scooters and powerchairs for as little as £10 a year from a Shopmobility service or for around £3 for a day hire.
