Home adaptations company Handicare has donated an accessible and modern wetroom to help a Blackburn family bring a young dad home after a fall down the stairs left him paralysed.
Local mobility shop Modern Mobility contacted its supplier Handicare, which provides stairlifts and homelifts as well as accessible bathrooms, when an employee shared the news about the accident with owner Ben Charlesworth just before the first lockdown in 2020.
Security guard Clint Grieve, 40, who was also a semi-professional boxer and mixed martial artist, had life-changing injuries after the fall. His wife Elizabeth launched a fundraising page to generate £40,000 to pay for the equipment to adapt their home ready for him to return and to aid his rehabilitation after spinal surgery.
Ben from Modern Mobility reached out to his supplier network to ask for their help.
“When I heard about what had happened to Clint, I knew we had to help somehow,” he explained.
“Modern Mobility have a long-lasting partnership with Handicare and this is mainly because our values are so similar. We both believe it is essential to give back to the local community. We are delighted that Handicare were able to fit the wetroom and make what is clearly a tough time that little bit easier for Clint and his family.”
Lyndsey Jackson-Smith of Handicare said: “After Ben contacted us, we were very happy to help by providing the wetroom for Clint and his family who have had such a difficult time. Dealing with a dramatic life-changing accident and the lockdown restrictions meant it was doubly hard for Clint’s family and friends who have really rallied round to help. We wish them all the very best and hope that by contributing in this way, more of the money they raise can be spent on the specialist equipment to aid his recovery.”
After the wetroom was finished earlier this year, Clint’s wife Elizabeth said: “This is going to make such a huge difference to him personally and our family. The finish of the work is done to the highest standard. I realise the cost and time to you for doing this is of great value and I honestly can’t thank you enough for all your help and generosity you have shown to our family during such a difficult time for us.
“Again, thank you so much for the difference you have genuinely made to our lives and a better quality of life for my husband to be able to access a shower.”
