The global mobility aid devices market will be worth £10.8bn by 2026, according to a new report.
Research carried out by Transparency Market Research reveals that the proposed growth is a result of an ageing population brought about by an increase in life expectancy.
A summary of the report claims that: “Increase in life expectancy has resulted in rise in demand for assistive mobility technologies. Moreover, economic growth, increase in adoption of technologically advanced products such as advanced powered wheelchairs for activities are expected to propel the global mobility aid devices market during the forecast period.”
The report classifies the market into four sections – wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walking aids and mobility lifts – with wheelchairs holding the largest share of the global market.
While demand for wheelchairs is expected to remain high, the report predicts that the segment that will experience the highest levels of growth according to the report is mobility scooters, as a result of their cheaper prices when compared with powered wheelchairs.
