How long have you worked for your current employer and how did you get into the industry?
I’ve worked for Mark Bates Ltd for six years. At the time I was re-entering the workplace following my first child and I applied for a job at Mark Bates Ltd knowing they were a family run company with a great reputation, not just locally but nationally.
What’s your biggest achievement in the industry to date?
During my time in the sales department we’ve managed to develop strong business relationships with our dealer network and grow the mobility business considerably. It is great to be able to shape the future direction of the business through my current role.
What do you most enjoy about working in the industry?
The variety of work. One minute I can be discussing our finance scheme, the next it’ll be our dealer portal. We have some excellent business partners, so it’s great to work with them and meet up.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
Remembering how everyone in the team takes their teas and coffees.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Which other company (inside or outside the industry) do you most admire and why?
John Lewis. I admire the ethos of the company – going above and beyond, offering quality products and outstanding service.
What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
When a colleague spoke to a Bluetooth speaker thinking it was Alexa. He said: ‘Alexa turn off’, and the speaker carried on playing music. This continued for a few minutes before he realised it wasn’t an Alexa.
If you could invite any four people (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would they be?
Prince Harry, Tom Hardy, Alan Sugar and Karen Brady.
