In the latest edition of our ‘Get To Know’ series, we meet Andrew Warbrick, managing director of TK Access Solutions.
How many years have you worked in the mobility sector and how did you get into the industry?
I have worked in the mobility sector for almost seven years now since joining TK Access Solutions (formerly Thyssenkrupp Access Solutions). I got into the industry having spent many years within the elevator industry and being very aware of the mobility sector.
What’s the first thing you do when you get into work in the morning?
I start with my yoga routine…. only joking! I make myself a cup of tea, check I am prepared for any meetings that day and the figures from the previous day. I also tend to make my calls with our offices in Dubai and Singapore due to the time differences.
What’s your most memorable moment in the industry to date?
When I first joined the company I spent a few weeks meeting the team and learning about the business. It wasn’t until I did my first visit to a stairlift installation and saw it handed over to fully understand the impact our solutions make on our customers’ lives.
What do you most enjoy about working in the industry?
This isn’t just specific to our company but the fact there is a collective passion within the sector to improve people’s lives and this can be seen on a daily basis. I also enjoy every opportunity to get out and about to meet people.
What’s the most difficult part of your job?
Keeping fully focussed on all the different areas of the business. We are selling multiple products through our partner network from South East Asia, through Europe and across to North America so it can be a huge challenge to look in all directions at the same time.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Control the controllable and influence the uncontrollable.
Which other company or brand do you most admire and why?
There are a number of brands I admire and they are often the brands that constantly innovate both products and the way they do things. The most successful are brands who understand what you want as a consumer and also what you didn’t know you needed yet.
Tell us something about yourself that none of your colleagues know?
That I do yoga every morning when I get into work…
If you won the lottery, what one luxury item or experience would you buy?
I would take my family on an extended holiday around the world. I would love to share all the experiences you have when you travel with those closest to me whilst being able to do it with an element of comfort.
If you could invite any three people to a dinner party, who would they be?
Peter Kay, Billy Connolly and Olivia Coleman. I think that could be a fun night.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I spend a lot of my spare time helping with my kids’ sports teams. I coach my daughter’s football team and my son’s cricket team. I also like to catch up with friends and spending hours talking about nothing in particular.
What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
I would love to say something intellectual but in reality it was probably something juvenile on YouTube.
