A new ‘active’ power wheelchair which is set to hit the market by the end of this year is currently undergoing consumer testing with a focus group in Scotland.
The developers of the FreedomOne have taken a prototype to a housing development in Edinburgh for tenants to test out.
The focus group are elderly and disabled residents of Abbey Court and will get to trial the powerchair and offer feedback so that modifications can be made before it enters the mainstream mobility market.
It was recently revealed that the FreedomOne project is attracting growing interest around its funding campaign, which aims to raise £1.2 million to get the chair market-ready.
It is hoped that the chair will enter commercial production by the end of this year, having struck a deal with a manufacturer in Scotland.
The FreedomOne is targeted at consumers living an active life and is designed to be more durable, lighter and with longer-lasting batteries and tyres than its competitors.
