EXCLUSIVE: ‘Industry relationships key to mobility dealer’s new venture’

Unique Mobility’s new paediatric arm, Unique Kidz, has got off to a strong start thanks in no small part to its team’s pre-established relationships with the industry’s main suppliers and manufacturers.

That’s according to Sean Taylor, who was recently recruited to help drive the dealer’s new paediatric venture after it secured an exclusive distribution deal with specialist manufacturer, Vida.

Unique’s new division has taken off with it fast becoming to go-to provider for paediatric equipment in the South West.

Taylor (pictured) said the company was in a fortunate position in that he and product specialist, James Morant, already had strong relationships with key suppliers, having operated in the industry for nearly three decades.

He said: “Having these foundations readily available meant that we were able to create brand awareness very quickly and get the ball rolling from day one.

“I think it would be hard for a new starter with little knowledge in the paediatric sector to make any big waves – a lot of it comes down to building trust.

Morant has 15 years of experience in the paediatric equipment field and has been busy driving the new division.

The team has attended a number of exhibitions and have received positive feedback from therapists who “seem very excited about working with Unique Kidz”, according to Taylor.

“We have expanded on what Vida/Leckey was offering into our area with powerchairs as well, so James has had to attend multiple training sessions since his introduction to the business.

“There are lots of opportunities [in this sector]. We have implemented a few extra product lines into the business which means that we have become a ‘one-stop shop’ for paediatric equipment.

“We have an established relationship with charities and case managers while working with manufacturers. This has allowed us to promote our services to them pretty quickly.”

Taylor concluded: “Manufacturers see the potential with Unique Mobility and have been keen to work with us over the last few years – this has meant that we have gone from being a mobility showroom to one of the largest suppliers in the region with the largest product range.”
