Dolphin Mobility Yorkshire and Cumbria has welcomed the government’s new social care pledge.
Following the Conservative election victory, Boris Johnson PM, has made a promise to the UK that his new government will address the social care crisis.
In doing so, he pledged an extra £1bn for care in the community.
Commenting, managing director at Dolphin Mobility Y&C, Gareth Watkinson said: “This is welcome news indeed. However, while increased funding is undoubtedly a step in the right direction, it needs to be invested alongside an overhaul of the way primary and community care is administered and delivered.”
Adding: “In particular a greater co-operation with and the impact community care has with the NHS when it comes to commissioning equipment and services.”
He went on to share his opinion that at present, public sector procurement strategy places too much emphasis on “cost effective procurement of goods and services.”
Suggesting that instead, they should be looking at “cost effective delivery of goods and services.”
Concluding: “There is a small, but significant, difference between the two and if we focus on the latter, we might just get a tad more healthcare for our money.”
