Charles Manby MBE is taking over the role of chairman at Motability as co-founder Lord Sterling will step aside.
It was initially announced at the last AGM, held in December 2019.
It was there where Lord Sterling publicly announced that after 43 years he would be handing over the role to Charles Manby MBE effective from June 1, having joined the Governing Board in September 2019.
Manby joins the charity following a distinguished career in the business world having previously worked at Goldman Sachs International for 27 years from which he retired in 2017.
From 2012-16 he chaired the development board for Cancer Research UK’s campaign, ‘Create the Change’, which raised £100 million for the construction of the Francis Crick Institute.
He is and has been a Trustee and Board member of several organisations including: Muscular Dystrophy UK; Oxford University’s Committee to Review Donations and Research Funding, and Innovation Advisory Board, NESTA.
Commenting on the handover, Lord Sterling said: “I am delighted to hand over the chairmanship of Motability to Charles Manby. His global experience in the business world and his considerable involvement in charitable causes will unquestionably add to the significant experience of Motability’s Board of Governors.
“Apart from my business career I have been involved in non-profit making organisations since my early 20s. I have to say that for me, creating Motability in order to enhance the lives of disabled people and their families has unquestionably been the most important endeavour of my life.
Concluding: “In my ongoing role as Life President I will of course help Motability in every way possible taking account the challenges ahead.”
While Manby added: “It is an enormous privilege to Chair the Motability Board of Governors and with their full support and respective experiences, I am confident we will continue the success of the past 43 years. I am indebted to Lord Sterling for his warm welcome and mentorship.
“Motability has grown from strength to strength under his hugely resourceful leadership. I look forward to helping the Charity continue to grow and expand its purpose, making a difference to the mobility of disabled people and their families.”
