Carbon Black opens door to key markets after breaking through funding barrier

Carbon Black Systems, which manufacturers high performance carbon fibre wheelchairs, has secured enough investment to launch its new product across key markets, including the UK.

The company has met its £340,000 crowdfunding target which it set a few months ago thanks to a number of investors.

The investment means the business can now roll the Carbon Black II out to the US, Germany and UK and establish its distribution.

Carbon Black said: “We want to say thank you to everyone who has invested in us”

The first Carbon Black wheelchair launched in 2012 and the market responded well to its different look and use of super lightweight carbon fibre.

The original chair, which was sold direct to end-users instead of through dealer channels, cost more to manufacture – and buy – than most other models which limited its sales.

Now Carbon Black plans to bring the equipment to a much wider audience without sacrificing looks, build quality or user benefits.

The Carbon Black II has a starting price of £3,995, bringing it into line with competitor prices in the premium manual wheelchair market.
