Bus operator trentbarton is offering one-to-one training for disabled passengers.
Its aim is to help wheelchair and mobility scooter users improve their confidence, enabling them to travel on buses more regularly.
Trentbarton take an empty bus to the person’s home, or to a location nearby, and allow them to practise boarding, alighting and using the wheelchair zone.
Users of the service also get the opportunity to ask questions of the driver and develop an understanding of the driver’s perspective.
Commenting on the offering, one passenger said: “Finding myself in a wheelchair for the first time knocked my confidence.
“Having tried to use the bus on one or two occasions without much success, I contacted trentbarton with a few issues I was having. Trentbarton’s help with training and knowing how their drivers are trained does help you get over the nerves you have.”
