Beach wheelchair charity Beach Access North East (BANE) has revealed plans to expand its service into Northumberland.
Two new beaches – Bamburgh and Beadnell – will soon offer wheelchair users easy access via BANE’s services.
“We tried a variety of routes, from the first car park along The Wynding, from the Pavilion and from The Links car park,” explained councillor Kirsty Dobson to the Northumberland Gazette.
“We felt the Pavilion access was the best. The first car park is also a possibility but there could be issues at high tide, while The Links was deemed too far to get to the beach in a heavy chair.
“All in all, it was deemed a project we could do.”
BANE has been improving access to beaches in the area for locals and tourists since 2017.
It recently secured £25,000 of funding to help transform Roker Beach in Sunderland.
