Assisted living housing developer wants to build major new site in Taunton

Taunton could be the next site for a property group that wants to develop a new assisted living site which would include 88 homes featuring adaptations and technology to allow elderly people to live independently.

Quantum Group has submitted a planning application to Taunton Deane Borough Council for a site that will include the installation of nearly 40 new mobility scooter storage spaces, assisted living apartments and a range of retail spaces.

Taunton has been described as a ‘demographic time bomb’ by the development firm, which plans to offer a solution to the increasing number of elderly people in the town.

It is estimated that over 65s make up around 20% of Taunton’s population.

The developer’s planning statement reportedly stated that Taunton’s population is become more aged.

If it goes ahead, the development would also include a 62-bed care home in addition to the independent living apartments.

Apartments would include a mix of one, two and three bedrooms and would feature kitchen and lounge facilities.
