The Dealer of the Year for Product Growth & Development award recognises mobility dealers that have worked on innovative ways of shifting stock for supplier partners and have proven their strategies are effective at realising the potential of products in the market.

We are delighted to announce that the 2019 shortlist includes the following dealers:

Mills Mobility Aids

Launched in 2017, Mills Mobility Aids has grown and developed very quickly and now covers Herefordshire and some of the surrounding counties. The dealer has actively spread the word of its services and now has clients from other countries booking equipment to hire for when they visit the UK. Mills Mobility’s latest development is the acquisition of a second unit close to its original site, which is currently being refurbished and equipped for decontamination capabilities. This initiative will help to broaden its services even further. The retailer has started to acquire local servicing contracts and further growth is planned, aided by investing in a two-year slot in Age UK magazine.

Mobility Scooters UK (Baron Medical)

As an independent retailer on the South Coast, Baron Medical, which trades as Mobility Scooters UK, is faced with stiff competition. Nevertheless, it has shown an ability to thrive and recently opened a new shop in Dorset on what it sees as a ‘landmark site’. The additional showroom space not only reflects Mobility Scooters UK’s current growth but also its ambitions for expansion. The investment means the firm has been able to cast its net wider and draw in more customers from further afield. The business has quickly advanced from selling living aids to high-spec scooters and wheelchairs and shows no sign of slowing down.

Oakley Healthcare

As one of the Midlands’ most prestigious mobility retailers, Oakley Healthcare has been operating in the equipment space for decades. This year marked a substantial shift in its growth when it acquired specialist footwear provider Sandpiper Shoes. Spying the opportunity to secure a wide range of products capable of consistently bringing customers back to store, Oakley Healthcare believes it has made a solid investment. It now plans to reinvigorate the brand and inject Sandpiper with its own input to help the footwear firm expand among fellow industry dealers. One change has been to refocus the range on the mobility market, which represents one of the more exciting product growth stories this year.

Beechfield Healthcare

Beechfield Healthcare recently added stairlifts to its portfolio, working with one of the sector’s largest manufacturers and fast becoming one of its biggest dealers in Ireland. Earlier this year, the stairlift supplier recognised Beechfield’s phenomenal revenue growth – 127% in 2018 – at its annual dealer conference, presenting the retailer with its growth award for 2019. By taking a different and more aggressive approach to the local arena, Beechfield has taken market share from competitor product offerings. The dealer’s stairlift venture has responded well to commercial training. Beechfield views itself as a truly professional and dynamic organisation that is reaping the benefits of applying best practice learnings in the stairlift market.

Sirus Automotive Ltd

Sirus has converted the VW Caddy Life for 11 years and has continually developed the product for increased efficiency. A hero product since its launch, it contributed to a significant portion of turnover in 2017/2018 and is an integral part of Sirus’ product range. Now the company has re-invested and refined the product, having pushed a further £319,000 into the equipment to develop it further, increasing quality and efficiency. Sirus is now working on the Generation 4 of the conversion, which is the best version the equipment yet and is helping the company to advance even further. There are three different conversions for the VW Caddy Life: the VW Drive enables the wheelchair user to drive from their wheelchair; the VW Upfront enables the wheelchair user to travel upfront next to the driver; and the Caddy Transfer enables the wheelchair user to transfer internally to the driver’s seat.

The 2019 AMP Awards ceremony takes place on Monday 21 October at The Dressler, 113 Chancery Ln in London. It is free to attend for dealers. To register your interest, email
