AMP AWARDS 2018 SHORTLIST: Dealer of the Year for Industry Innovation

The Dealer of the Year for Industry Innovation award, sponsored by Trilift, recognises trailblazing dealers that have invested time and resources into new and exciting ideas that push the boundaries and could help pave the way for the future of mobility retail.

We are delighted to announce that the 2018 shortlist includes the following dealers:

GS Mobility
Neil Medhurst from Gold Star Mobility has balanced selling mobility products with developing a new device to help dealers combat scooter thefts while generating more business. Created in-house, the simple but clever Mobility Key Fob was debuted at Trade Days and 60% of stock was sold on the first day. To be able to run a retail outlet while inventing new devices takes dedication, hard work and above all, innovation. As an electrical engineer, Neil hopes to drive even more innovation in other areas and has new products in the pipeline for the dealer market.

John Preston Healthcare
In such an unpredictable market, taking risks on stock is something many dealers will avoid. John Preston is known for taking leaps of faith with new and innovative products and this year in particular it has pushed the boundaries of its product range. It has expressed a keenness to be involved with new concepts such as the wheelAIR and has reaped the rewards as customers have approached it for products not to be found anywhere else. Its innovative approach to retail has established its position as one of the most respected dealers in the mobility market.

Gerald Simonds
Known for introducing new and exciting products from abroad into the UK market, Gerald Simonds has not let up on its strategy of offering the most advance mobility technology available. Taking on equipment that other distributors do not offer, the dealer has been able to make a real difference to the lives of many of its customers where others might not have been able to provide. The success of its recent investment in unconventional and untested products has been reflected in customer case studies. To support its innovation with concrete evidence of quality, the dealer also achieved ISO 9001:2015.

Lifestyle and Mobility
Lifestyle and Mobility has made innovation a central part of its business plan in the last year. The South Coast dealer opened a fourth flagship store this year with inspiration taken from Apple outlets in a move away from the traditional format. A format that strikes a balance between a crisp and attractive experiential layout and one that offers plenty of product, it quickly delivered exceptional results and the ambitious firm has hinted at a redesign of its portfolio. Attracting large amounts of new Motability clients, the trial’s initial success is helping the dealer to increase its stake of the competitive South Coast market.

John Bell & Croyden
Truly unique in its approach to the market, John Bell & Croyden’s store overhaul looked to inject excitement and spice back into mobility aids. Bringing in gold-plated Swarovski adorned Sport Rider scooters and stocking crystal-encrusted walking canes, bosses say mobility can still be modern, flash and make customers smile. Having proved a strong marketing asset for the company, John Bell & Croyden’s innovative product selection and marketing has seen revenues increase by 20% to £11m last year. The new shop lay-out, which has a department store feel, has successfully smashed customers’ pre-judgements of mobility and the business now has a solid foundation for further progression.

The 2018 AMP Awards ceremony takes place on Sunday 7 October, the first evening of the Trade Days show, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
