One of the largest manufacturers and suppliers in the market, Acorn Stairlifts, has increased its turnover by 20% once again to nearly £212m in what has been another record year of growth for the company.
The group’s operating profit also increased from £19,000 to £22,000 while the company’s headcount grew by 178 to 1,485 employees, according to Acorn’s latest strategic report for the year ended 30 September 2017.
A key reason for Acorn’s increased revenue in recent months has been the growth of international markets and it increased the proportion of non-UK turnover from 68% to 71%. It attributed its overseas growth in part to a strong US dollar.
The directors’ strategic report stated that the company has continued to invest in sales growth and opening new markets.
It spent £45,000 directly on research and development (R&D) projects in the year to develop the comfort, safety and functionality of its products.
Acorn, which described its year as “very positive” was founded in 1992 and now has factories in Yorkshire and Scotland.
