Classic Canes, a supplier of premium walking aids, is hoping its latest products will prove popular in mobility retailers’ showrooms as gifts in the upcoming Christmas season.
The Somerset-based company recently unveiled a new range of folding, handbag-sized walking sticks that fold into five sections instead of the usual four.
At Trade Days the stick supplier also showcased its National Gallery range. Managing director Charlotte Gillan said the sticks are appealing to people in the gift market and for ladies who want to make a statement with their cane.
Gillan commented: “Sticks are great Christmas presents because if you have a stick-user in the family they can always do with another one to go with different outfits. And they’re practical too.”
“For a lot of people, when the doctor says ‘it’s time for you to use a walking stick’, and they get given an ugly, clickety-clack thing it can be very demoralising. Whereas if they’re a ‘loud’ person they can have a leopard print cane and their friends will admire it and people will talk to them about it in the queue for the bus. It makes life that much more exciting and happy.”
Classic Canes also offers a range of special accessories too, which are designed to be ideal as stocking fillers. One is a torch device which attaches onto a walking stick to provide light for a stick user at night.
Mobility shops have been a relatively late addition to the Classic Canes stable of stockists, attracted to the company by its wide range of walking sticks, to suit the varied tastes of their customers, the business said.
