Van Os Medical has announced the soft launch of a range of new mobility products due in the next few weeks which it hopes will mean that any teething problems can be dealt with before the main trading season in spring.
Next month the firm is introducing a class 2 scooter (Travelux Tiempo), a manual wheelchair (Excel Globe Traveller) and two larger mobility scooters (Excel Roadster and Excel Galaxy LCD).
Managing director Scott Crabtree explained that Van Os favours soft launches in the autumn rather than leaving it until the spring so that any potential problems can be ironed out out of season.
“We always do this. We’ve got all the products out there, tested and used and then come spring and summer we’re ready to go,” Crabtree told AMP.
“That model works fantastically. We do miss out. If you’re launching three mobility scooters in March you’re going to sell a lot more. We always sacrifice that. We go for the launch at the end of September on a small scale.
“That means that anything that trickles back into us we can fix on the next batch arrivals in spring time. We don’t want to just chase the market share and the margin, it’s not for us.”
