For the last 20 years, Mike Elkerton MBE has been pushing for governments and companies to rethink their approach on building evacuation strategies and solutions.
While the mobility market houses some specialist businesses that provide and deal in evacuation equipment, there is generally a lack of understanding and debate around evacuating people with mobility issues, Mike feels.
In light of recent events such as the Grenfell Tower disaster and various terror attacks in the UK, he fears that people may become complacent and is calling for debate on evacuation strategy and solutions from disaster zones.
It is dedication and campaigning of this nature that is helping the mobility industry and the companies within it to evolve and develop their products.
On top of this, Mike’s work through his company, Access and Evacu8, is helping to better inform everyone from hospital managers to heads of sports stadiums about the procedures, installations and solutions they need to have in place to ensure the safe evacuation of everyone, not just able-bodied people.
Mike has developed and continues to improve a range of services which are designed to make society a safer place for disabled and elderly people.
