Lincolnshire-based mobility retailer, People First Mobility, has been named one of 100 firms in 2017’s Small Business Saturday campaign.

Small Business Saturday has been running for five years and promotes one business a day on social media leading up to the annual event in December.

The Small Business Saturday initiative was founded in an effort to bring attention to small, independent companies and encourage spending with them in the face of giant firms which cash in on mega-spending on Black Friday and Cyber Monday each December.

Each year the campaign looks for businesses that represent ‘the best in British business’. Michelle Ovens, director of the initiative, said: “Small businesses are getting new customers and revenues, customers are meeting new businesses that offer great service, great value and [are run by] local people who know your name when you walk through the door. It is not altruism – communities and the economy benefit when small businesses are better supported.”

Karen Sheppard, owner of People First, commented: “We are really pleased to have been chosen as one of the top 100 businesses in the UK. It champions small businesses, one per day up to the main Small Business Saturday event on 2nd December. It encourages people to shop locally and support the small businesses in the community.”

Sheppard has also been a finalist in the Skegness Business awards, Business Person of the Year and finalist in the East Lindsey Awards. She believes that customers and suppliers can relate to the awards and helps her to grow her business, giving people confidence to buy.
