Mobility retailers urged to recommend regular battery charger changes

Easystart, a leading distributor of Haze mobility scooter batteries, has said that retailers should recommend that customers replace their battery charger whenever they get a new battery to maximise the life of both units.

Sales manager, Katie Horner, points out, there is only so much a battery charger can do. “If a battery is left discharged over a period of time, or the charge cycle is interrupted the battery will begin to fail and a standard battery charger won’t be able to 100% charge. Then the battery will fail,” she says.

“The demands on mobility scooters are huge and high capacity batteries are used now. The biggest misunderstanding is that a scooter can be used on a Monday, left, and then used again on a Friday. This will work short-term but long-term it will damage the battery.”

The Northamptonshire-based company knows all this because it is one of the foremost battery suppliers in the UK market. It stocks a specialised range of batteries specifically for the electric vehicle market, including Haze AGM and Gel batteries, which are designed to be worked.

“They have a high cycle life, work better in a greater variation of temperatures and can withstand the demands of variable riding conditions,” outlines Horner. “The EX range provides the extra power needed to go a further distance when there physically isn’t any room on the scooter for bigger batteries. Over the years, this range has been developed to meet the needs of every mobility scooter customer, from the occasional to the everyday user. The quality and reliability of Haze means the mobility sector is one of the biggest markets for Easystart.”

Easystart has been distributing Haze for 10 years and its wide Haze charger range offers a solution for all needs. The Haze smart charger has multi charging stages, ensuring the battery is fully charged to the best possible manner to achieve maximum cycle life.

One of the key features is the manual rejuvenation or refresh mode. This is ideal for a battery which has been abused and left discharged, for example over winter. The battery refresh breaks down the resistance — the build-up of sulphate — thus improving the performance of the battery. “This is unique to Haze and can be used as service tool,” explains Horner.

With such vast experience, Easystart can vouch for the power needed to keep vehicles on the move.
