NHS Grampian has published guidance on protecting feet with appropriate pressure-relieving equipment as part of its campaign to reduce ulcer damage among hospital patients.
The health board launched its Check-Protect-Refer initiative for people deemed “at risk” of developing ulcers on their feet.
Aside from advice on specialist equipment, the health board has issued guidance on checking patients’ feet for signs of risk and pressure damage and referring the patients onwards for advice and support where needed.
NHS Grampian has installed an information stand containing leaflets and posters in the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to provide people with additional advice and support.
The advice covers who is at risk of developing foot ulcers, for example frail or elderly people.
The information includes visual diagrams demonstrating how feet can be checked to help reduce the risk of an ulcer developing.
