GET TO KNOW: Scott Everard, senior sales manager, Companion Stairlifts

Scott Everard Companion Handicare CROP2

How long have you worked for your current employer and how did you get into the industry?
I joined Companion through an agency, responding for an advert for telesales executives just over 13 years ago.

What’s the first thing you do when you get into work in the morning?
Making sure the team is working well together and that everyone is communicating with each other is an important part of all the managers’ daily tasks. One of my first jobs every day is to catch up with the other managers to share what the day ahead holds for my team.

What do you most enjoy about working in the industry?
There is never a dull moment and no two days are ever the same. We are working more closely with our Handicare colleagues now, and this means even more variety for me as I spend more time with dealers sharing best practice.

What’s the hardest part of your job?
Being part of a team that is effectively changing people’s lives is so rewarding, as everyone working in this industry knows. We do hear some lovely stories from our team and from our customers, but sometimes the insights into people’s lives can be harder to hear. I think we all find that difficult.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Never give up! Whatever your goal or dream, if you want it badly enough you shouldn’t ever give up. Where there’s a will there’s a way! This has got me to where I am today and hopefully will get me a lot further too.

Which other company (inside or outside the industry) do you most admire and why?
I am a huge admirer of Google; what it has achieved in terms of web domination is impressive. It manages to stay one step ahead of competition.

What’s your biggest achievement in the industry to date?
I was promoted to senior sales manager in February this year and am immensely proud of what I have achieved and what I have helped the rest of the team at Companion to achieve during my career.

Tell us something about yourself that none of your colleagues know?
I started my career in a very different industry to this one and achieved a qualification for my bakery skills!
