How long have you worked for your current employer and how did you get into the industry?
Over 15 years, time flies when you’re having fun.
What’s the first thing you do when you get into work in the morning?
Check my e-mails; particularly ones from suppliers as they tend to contact us early due to the time difference.
What’s your biggest achievement in the industry to date?
I hope that we have maintained our service standard along with our growth.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Walking the dog, socialising and embarrassing my teenage daughters.
What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
My daughter becoming a weekday vegetarian; strict with a small ‘s’.
Tell us something about yourself that none of your colleagues know?
I don’t like skiing anymore (after breaking my leg this year).
If you could invite any four people (dead or alive) to a dinner party, who would they be?
Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Eric Morecombe and Ernie Wise.
Which other company (inside or outside the industry) do you most admire and why?
Apple has a very clear idea of what it wants to achieve and how to go about it.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Not to chase too many sales and concentrate too much on price at the expense of everything else. People will pay more for quality and design.
If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you buy?
A new set of golf clubs; mine don’t work properly and it can’t be my swing.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
Managing a small team can be tricky when people are off.
What do you most enjoy about working in the industry?
I enjoy the variety and working with our customers who can often give us challenges we haven’t come across before.
