For almost 20 years, David Hughes, along with business partner Karl Howe, has been at the helm of Eden Mobility, taking it from a mainly servicing company to a 28-strong mobility retailer.
While concentrating heavily on the servicing of scooters, powerchairs and stairlifts at first, David has since diversified the business to become one of the most complete mobility retail forces in the north of England.
Eden has branched out into everything from bathroom adaptations to funeral plans but still aims to maintain a strong service and repairs operation, which keeps customer satisfaction at its core.
David has long-running experience in after-sales care and, in spite of its size, Eden aims to provide each one of its customers with superior levels of support.
With a turnover in excess of £11.5m and 128 staff, the founding duo have scaled the business over a number of years and created a financially strong outfit that knows the market inside-out.
The firm now claims to have a customer base of more than 180,000 people but it has never lost the personal touch.
When rival dealer Yorkshire Mobility went down earlier this year, Eden was one of the first places that many of its customers turned to, with the company’s 16 Yorkshire stores ensuring it could meet the needs of local people needing mobility advice and equipment.
