Handicare achieved healthy sales of stairlifts in Europe in 2017 and captured market share which it attributed to a more professional sales effort and increased cross sales of products through its distribution network.

The size of the market is estimated at £385m with expected growth of 1% to 3%. Handicare estimates its market share at between 20% and 25%.

Ms Brophy will focus on achieving organic growth from existing and new customers, new markets and new products and solutions. She will oversee the creation of a more efficient, commercial global organisation, the implementation of group-wide commercial initiatives, and geographic expansion including expanded dealer networks.

Ms Brophy has worked with Handicare since 2010 when her retail company, Companion Stairlifts, was acquired by the group and she became a Handicare director.

This is her second promotion in less than one year; in July 2017 she became the UK managing director responsible for all the group’s UK activities including dealer and government sales, moving, handling and bathing solutions, as well as customer service and field service.

Asbjorn Eskild said: “Our ambition is to become the leading player in accessibility worldwide and Clare’s appointment will support our strategy and help us achieve our financial objectives. She has many years of experience from Handicare and has worked actively with the sales excellence platform which will be central as we move forward.”
