AMP AWARDS 2018 SHORTLIST: Dealer of the Year (North)

The Dealer of the Year (North) award recognises the region’s top-performing mobility dealerships that have demonstrated commitment and innovation to drive their businesses, and the industry, forward, over what has been a challenging year.

We are delighted to announce that the 2018 shortlist includes the following dealers:

RKS OT Services Ltd
On the back of being a highly commended Motability dealer in 2016, RKS OT Services Ltd has kept its momentum and found itself declared Motability Dealer of the Year 2017 for the medium fleet category. This was achieved in spite of the two occupational therapists who run the business continuing to carry a large clinical caseload. The co-founders believe the professional and product training and the seminars they have undergone this year as well as their proactive communication with suppliers have played a key part in RKS’ achievements. The directors are duly proud of their success and the respect they command in what is a generally male-dominated industry.

Ross Care
The industry often requires a leap of faith to advance and Ross Care’s new store model that launched in 2017 is an exemplary, innovative format for businesses to follow. Investing £150,000 in its new Independent Living Centre, Ross Care hopes the store, which is based on information and advice, goes deeper than typical glossy showrooms and branding and seeks to contribute to meeting the challenges faced in social care provision. The store’s Changing Places toilet, OT advice, signposting material and community hub feel are part of Ross Care’s drive to change the way private care is delivered.

ScootaMart
One of only a handful of franchise operators in the industry, ScootaMart has been busy honing a repeatable store model. In recent months it has implemented a strategy that has seen it target prime locations in shopping centres and town centres. It has spent time researching ideal locations, put up shop plans and ideal stock levels to meet customer requirements and then made long-term commitments to suppliers. This guarantees it is buying stock at the lowest possible prices to give its franchisees the best chance of succeeding.The business evidently has faith in the high street and placing itself in desirable, high footfall locations, it is bolstering its hold on the northern market.

Millercare
Size counts in the mobility market and launching its new superstore in Warrington last year opened Millercare up to a whole new base of customers. Preceded by a new outlet in Southport, Millercare has been briskly increasing its output, which has been picked up by pleased equipment suppliers. Holding one of the widest range of mobility scooters in the North, Millercare has taken to actively promoting its ability to meet the needs of various customers. Multiple open days and reviews on social media have helped push its case. On the inside too, the company has evidenced strong staff retention, which is important in sustaining its growth.

Independent Living Showroom
Part of the Dolphin Lifts Group, Independent Living Showroom reported a record turnover of more than £2m recently. Thanks in part to a £35,000 upgrade to its showroom and investing in four new service vehicles and website improvements, the Newcastle retailer has been busy implementing its growth strategy. Part of its plan has been to create more jobs and improve its offering. This has meant resources being poured into training and education which has seen it secured premier status with key manufacturers and suppliers. Is new ILS Academy is a new arm dedicated to training and has helped other members of the market to stay up-to-date.

The 2018 AMP Awards ceremony takes place on Sunday 7 October, the first evening of the Trade Days show, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole.
